The start of the Tour of Flanders could move from Bruges to Antwerp next year according to Het Laatse Nieuws. Antwerp City Council have been in discussions with Flanders Classics about the possible move.

The race has started in Bruges since 1998. Sint Niklaas was the location for the start from 1977 to 1997 with Ghent hosting the start for all previous editions of De Ronde.

The contract with Bruges finishes this year and talks are ongoing regarding the host city for next year. It is believed that other cities and towns have also expressed interest in being the start location but that Antwerp is the favourite to become the new host city.

Antwerp’s Mayor Bart De Wever is said to be fully behind the bid which is expected to cost around €200,000.
