The second stage of the Vuelta a España took the riders from Ourense to Baiona with Etixx – Quick-Step’s Gianni Meersman taking the win in a sprint finish ahead of Michael Schwarzmann (Bora-Argon 18) and Magnus Cort Nielsen (ORICA-BikeExchange). Michal Kwiatkowski of Team Sky was 4th across the line and now takes over the leader’s red jersey from his team mate Peter Kennaugh.

It was a tricky finish to the stage with a number of corners to be negotiated at the end and there were a couple of crashes inside the last few kilometres. Katusha’s Sergey Lagutin crashed with 2.5 kilometres remaining. However, the Uzkek rider was able to remount and finish the stage.

In the onboard footage below from Velon, you can see a few riders from Team Sky take some evasive action after there was a touch of wheels near the finish line with Direct Energie’s Ryan Anderson coming down in the crash. The Canadian rider lay on the road for some time before getting back on his feet and finishing the stage.
