It has been confirmed this morning that Mark Cavendish will not take part in the World Championships Road Race next Sunday (September 27th) due to injury.

The Manxman crashed into a parked car during Stage 6 of the Tour of Britain and had suffered a shoulder injury, and there had been doubts about his participation since then.

X-rays showed that he hadn’t any fractures or separation of the shoulder joint, but the Etixx-Quick Step rider had been struggling in training.

It was possibly Cavendish’s best opportunity to repeat his win of 2011 in the Worlds in Copenhagen. The news is the latest blow to the British team following the withdrawals of Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas.
