Following on from Matt Brammeier’s terrible crash on the sixth stage of the Tour of Utah, positive news has emerged this evening that he has been discharged from hospital.

The former Irish champion collided with a team car of the Airgas Safeway team on the descent of Guardsman Pass in Big Cottonwood Canyon when chasing back to the peloton.

Dr Jarrad van Zuydam, the MTN-Qhubeka team doctor tweeted:

Happy to report that @Mattbrammeier85 has been discharged & will fly home soon. Many thanks to medical staff at University Utah Hospital!

He suffered multiple injuries in the crash including rib fractures on both sides and fractures of the sacral and pelvic bones. It’s unknown yet how long he will be out of competition.

A video of the accident later emerged which showed had hard he crashed. Two other riders behind also had incidents of their own after a motorcycle slowed down on the bend and they ended up running into it.

This is the video of the crash, but we would recommend discretion watching it.
