Following on the from the incident at the recent Clasica San Sebastian, where Greg van Avermaet (BMC Racing) was hit by a support motorbike, the organisers have written to the Belgian to apologise.

However, van Avermaet is still very disappointed with what happened. He told Het Laatste Nieuws that he came across the apology when checking his mail. “It was sent by the organisation of the Clasica San Sebastian. The letter was written in Spanish. But I don’t speak Spanish. You can still deduce that the organisation apologises.”

He goes on to say, “But there is nothing to change. With a win or a second place, I now stood in the top ten of the World Tour rankings. Instead, he now sits in 17th position.

Van Avermaet was leading the race on his own when he was hit from behind by a television motorbike. Adam Yates (Orica-GreenEdge) went on a solo attack on the final climb and went on to win the race.
