Eddie Dunbar is set to return to racing shortly at An Post Rás following on from his collarbone break which he sustained last month. Dunbar is set to line up as part of the Irish National Team in the eight-day race.

The Irish Under 23 Road Race champion broke his collarbone after crashing on a motor-pacing training ride 60 kilometres his home in Banteer, Co. Cork.

Dunbar had originally hoped to line up at the Amgen Tour of California (UCI 2.HC) which starts this weekend but had to change plans following the accident.

His Axeon Hagens Berman team revealed the news today on Twitter. “Good news from @EddieDunbar: “Training is going well and I am doing #Ras2016. So I have something to work towards.”

He had been due to make his debut in last year’s race but was unable to take part after breaking his collarbone at the Tour de Yorkshire.

“It’s always something I wanted to do,” he said of the Rás earlier this year, “but last year I broke my collarbone so couldn’t do it so that was very disappointing. It’s a nice route, I know the roads well and I think it’s a route that suits me.”

The An Post Rás will total almost 1240 kilometres, and will include 25 categorised climbs. The race will roll out from Dublin Castle on Sunday May 22nd and will feature stage finishes in Multyfarnham, Charleville, Dingle, Sneem, Clonakilty, Dungarvan and Baltinglass before concluding in Skerries on May 29th.
