Andre Greipel (Lotto-Soudal) has been relegated from first place on the final stage of the Tour of Britain, after being deemed to have pushed Elia Viviani (Team Sky) into the barriers.

The race jury viewed the footage and made the decision to relegate Greipel as they felt that he had deviated from his line.

The German explained afterwards that he had not done it on purpose. “I saw Viviani next to me but I didn’t see him coming. So, I think I didn’t do any mistake. That’s sprinting. The final straight wasn’t that wide, so I have to pass the guys in front of me so I have to look for the space to overtake the guys.”

  1. We saw this unfold, to be fair to Griepel it was a very tense narrow finish with a tight bend at the end. Respect to Elia though for his composure at the end and the way he lodged his complaint.
    Good honest racing.
