Today’s 151 kilometre stage of the Tour Down Under from McLaren Vale to Wilunga Hill was expected to be decisive. The Queen stage would see the riders tackle Willunga Hill twice, and race leader Rohan Dennis (Team BMC) could expect a challenge to his ochre jersey.

Tom Dumoulin (Team Giant-Alpecin), Daryl Impey (Orica GreenEdge) and Richie Porte (Team Sky) were all within 15 seconds of Dennis at the start of the day, but the Australian did have the advantage of having his team mate Cadel Evans sitting in second place.
