Tom Dumoulin (Giant-Alpecin) moved into the leader’s position when he finished the prologue at Paris-Nice today, beating the previous best time set by Patrick Bevin of Cannondale.

With just twelve riders setting off behind him, the Dutch rider had a very good chance of taking the first leader’s jersey of the race.

However, his time was beaten by just one second by Michael Matthews of Orica-GreenEdge who finished the 6.1 kilometre test in 7’39”.

As can be seen in the video below, the Dutchman didn’t hide his disappointment when told that Matthews had eclipsed him.
