One of the characteristics of Ghent-Wevelgem is that the race is often likely to see echelons forming in crosswinds. Although the race doesn’t have a long stretch along the North Sea coast that it had in previous years, the lack of shelter for riders in the landscape of West Flanders still provides an opportunity for them to form.

Echelons can be a very exciting aspect of racing, and if the wind is strong enough on Sunday, it’s quite possible we will witness them.

Bram Tankink of Team Lotto Jumbo NL explains how echelons form and how important it is to be vigilant during Ghent-Wevelgem.
