Spanish news site informacion.es have reported that riders from Team Giant-Alpecin were involved in a terrible crash at a training camp in Spain today.
It was reported that six riders were involved in the crash with at least one taken to hospital by helicopter after the head-on collision with a car. The crash took place in the hills above Calpe on the Costa Blanca.
Team Giant-Alpecin tweeted afterwards: “There was an accident in training today at our camp in Spain. Some riders involved in the crash went to the hospital for a check…” followed by “All riders are in stable condition right now. More details to follow.”
Informacion reported that the crash took place at 15:15 local time in Benigembla. They posted a photo of the aftermath of the crash on their site showing a number of shattered bikes lying at the side of the road.
Amongst those present at the training camp are Paris-Roubaix winner John Degenkolb and Tom Dumoulin. Emergency services reported that the driver of the car was a tourist who was on the wrong side of the road.
