Top Irish junior Michael O’Loughlin has been signed by Team Wiggins, . He joins the British Continental team for the 2016 season alongside Liam Holohan from Madison Genesis.
O’Loughlin of the Nicolas Roche Performance Team Magnet.ie has shown great ability against the clock in particular, in his career to-date. Earlier this year, he won the 2nd stage of the Trophée Centre Morbihan in Brittany which is one of the biggest junior races in the world. He went on to finish 2nd overall in the race. He also finished 4th on a stage of another Nations Cup race, the Trofeo Karlsberg in Germany.
Last year, O’Loughlin finished in 8th place in the Junior World Time Trial Championships. He came in one minute 42.81 seconds behind the winning time of Lennard Kamna of Germany.
Team Wiggins was founded by Bradley Wiggins in the latter part of the 2014 road season, in order to better facilitate his return to the track as part of his preparations for the 2016 Olympic Games.
Amongst the team’s best results this season were stage wins for Andy Tennant and Owain Doull in the Flèche du Sud. Doull also won the Points classification in the Tour of Britain.
