Former World Scratch Race champion, Martyn Irvine, is set to partner Lasse-Norman Hansen at the forthcoming London Six-Day race. It will be the first Six-Day race to take place in London for 35 years, and the event will take place between October 18-23.
The Dane Hansen races for the Cannondale-Garmin team and has achieved some great results on the track including gold at the 2012 Olympics, as well as medals in the World Championships.
Amongst the other big names taking part are Iljo Keisse, Niki Terpstra and Adam Blythe. Keisse in particular, has an excellent pedigree in six-day racing having taken victories in the past in Grenoble, Zurich, Rotterdam and Ghent, amongst others. Keisse will partner with Gijs van Hoecke.
Terpstra has built up a great reputation on the road, but he also has taken numerous victories in six-day races, so his partnership with fellow Dutchman Yoeri Havik will be another one to watch out for. Another partnership to look out for is Michael Morkov and Jesper Morkov.
Mark Cavendish, who is unable to compete in Six Day London due to injury, is looking forward to experiencing the event as a spectator, “There’s an ambience about a Six Day event which is hard to describe. It’s like a party with some cycling going on! It’s a great field, some of the top racers around and is going to be a fantastic event.”
Bradley Wiggins is also not competing in London having chosen not to add it to an already packed schedule.
