We recently heard somebody asking the question as to how much having a beard increases drag on the bike. Facial hair has gotten more and more common, with the likes of Bradley Wiggins and Luca Paolini growing beards in recent years.

Numerous aspect of bikes, clothing and position have been studied to try and develop the optimum position and equipment in an effort to reduce drag, but is it all being undone by sporting a beard?

Well the subject was looked into as part of The Win Tunnel series of videos from Specialized.

In the video, Mark Cote and Chris Yu of Specialized first measure the drag of bearded rider Joe Self, from a Specialized dealership in Texas. Joe then shaves off his beard and the measurements are repeated.
