The UCI Artistic Cycling World Championships are currently taking place in Stuttgart and below are some highlights from the first day of competition.

The championships first took place in Copenhagen in 1956 and since its inception, Germany have dominated the medal table.

In addition to artistic cycling competitions, a Cycle ball tournament also takes place. The sport which is also known as “radball” is a sport similar to football played on bicycles. The two people on each team ride a fixed gear bicycle with no brakes or freewheel. The ball is controlled by the bike and the head, except when defending the goal.

On the opening day of competition, Celine Burlet, Jenifer Schmid, Melanie Schmid and Flavia Zuber won the ACT 4 Open competiton for Switzerland with Germany and Slovakia taking silver and bronze respectively.
