The opening stage of Kreiz Breizh Elites (UCI 2.2) took place yesterday in Brittany. The stage took the riders from Calanhel to Plouray over a course of 194.8 kilometres.

The race features a mix of French DN1 teams, UCI Continental teams such as Verandas Willems, Rabobank Development Team and SEG Racing Academy. Also included in the line-up are the Irish National Team. The six riders on the Irish team are Sean McKenna, Mark Downey, Matthew Teggart, Daragh O’Mahoney, Mark Dowling and Conor Hennebry.

The opening stage was won by Guillaume Gaboriaud (Occitane Cyclisme Formation) ahead of Jeroen Meijers (Rabobank Development Team) and Clément Mary (Sojasun Espoir ACNC) who had been part of an eight-man break.

Sean McKenna and Daragh O’Mahoney were best of the Irish finishing in a group 2’40” behind the leaders.

The race continues today with an 82-kilometre stage from Ploërdut to Callac followed by a 100-kilometre stage from Carhaix to Carhaix.
