Amongst the races that form part of the post-Tour criterium circuit is the Profronde van Tiel in the Netherlands. Wilco Kelderman (LottoNL-Jumbo) won the men’s pro race ahead of Laurens ten Dam (Team Giant-Alpecin).

As part of the evening’s entertainment, a Derny race for former professionals also took place which consisted of 14 laps of the circuit. Amongst those who were taking part were former Motorola and US Postal rider Max van Heeswijk and Maarten den Bakker who rode for PDM and TVM amongst other teams.

It was two former team-mates who took the top two spots as Gert Jakobs beat Jean-Paul van Poppel finished 1st and 2nd. Jakobs and Van Poppel raced together on the Superconfex, PDM and Festina teams.

Whilst Jakobs had a limited number of victories during his career, Van Poppel was one of the best sprinters during the 80s and 90s. The Dutchman won multiple stages of the Giro d’Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana amongst numerous other victories. He now works as a Directeur Sportif for the Roompot-Oranje Peloton team.

Third place went to Bart Voskamp, who spent much of his career on the TVM team, where he won stages of the Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana.
