The Belgian race Dwars door Vlaanderen is still set to take place tomorrow despite the terrorist attacks which took place in Brussels this morning.

The organisers held a meeting this evening to decide on whether the race should go ahead following the attacks at Brussels airport and at Maalbeek Metro station.

However, there will be additional security in place at the race and the riders will pay their respects to the victims and their families at the start with a minute of silence and the podium ceremony will be adapted to the tragic circumstances, according to the organisers.

“Security forces in Roeselare (starting place) and Waregem (finish) assured that the safety of the peloton and the fans will be assured”, said organiser Guy Delesie. “And the local governor is in negotiations with the ministry of Internal Affairs. If the government in Brussels decides that we should cancel the race, we accept that decision. But otherwise Dwars door Vlaanderen will go on as scheduled.”
