A man suspected of hitting a cyclist and fleeing the scene in New Mexico, USA, was held at gunpoint by another man until the police arrived. A video of the incident was subsequently sent to KRQE News by eyewitness Vern Hershberger.

Albuquerque Police later confirmed that a cyclist had been hit by a SUV on Friday morning with the motorist continuing to drive on with the bike being dragged along by the vehicle.

The police also said that they were unsure as to how it came about that a citizen ended up holding the suspect at gunpoint on an overpass over a kilometre away from the scene.

An eyewitness said that the suspect could be heard pleading with the armed man not to shoot and apologising saying that he hadn’t meant to run over the cyclist.

The suspect could then be seen taken away in the police car while the cyclist was being tended to by paramedics at the scene. The police said that the cyclist is expected to be OK.
