According to French media, there’s a very good chance that Mont Ventoux will be used in the Tour de France next year. It has been suggested that it would it would be included on the 180-kilometre fourteenth stage of the race starting in Draguignan.
The climb was last used in the 2013 race when Chris Froome demolished the opposition on the climb. Prior to that, it was previously used in the 2009 race, when Juan Manuel Gárate won the stage.
The route to Mont Ventoux from Bédoin ascends 1617 metres over 21.8 kilometres, with an average gradient of 7.43%. However, as far as Saint-Estève, the climb is relatively easy (3.9% for 5.8 kilometres), but the final 16 kilometres have an average gradient of 8.9%.
