According to the most recent update of doping case count by sport and country compiled by the Mouvement Pour un Cyclisme Credible (MPCC), cycling sits in fifth place of sports with the most doping cases.

The information is from in or out-of-competition tests and investigations. The 17 cases in cycling comprise of 4 at World Tour level, 4 at Pro Continental level, 5 at Continental level and 4 other cases. 14 of these cases were from road cycling with 2 on the track and 1 MTB case.

Regarding countries, Russia leads the way with 30 cases, and the UK and US both with 18. The Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) has recently been temporarily suspended by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

That suspension followed on from the release of the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) Independent Commission Report earlier this month. In the report, the commission found that there was a systematic level of doping that had been perpetuated in part by unscrupulous athlete support personnel in Russia.
