A new bike lane in Cambridge, Massachusetts has come in for criticism after a concrete block was left on the lane which has created a pinch point, narrowing the lane considerably.
Amongst those who highlighted the obstruction on the new bike lane which was recently installed in a busy section of Kendall Square was cycling advocate Steve Bercu, who is President of Boston Cyclists Union and Ecocity Builders.
Bercu, who goes by the name @bicycleurbanist on Twitter posted a photo of the block which shows a white lane painted around the obstruction with the comment: “Brand new bike infra in Cambridge, MA. Best-practice? #ShinguardsRecommended”
However, city engineers have said that it had proved difficult to move the block as it contains a venting system for an underground pump and the pump in turn is connected to an art display and fountain.
No worse than the piles of gravel and broken glass I dodge every time I ride. You’d think that when a wealthy town of 50,000 receives government grants to paint bike lanes, they could at least sweep them once a month.
Ain’t that the truth—everywhere
Our town swept bike lanes every week, until a few years ago. Last couple of years, they got swept once a year.
I need to see some Photoshop edits. This is comedy gold.
It’s par for the course pretty much everywhere.
Thats not a bike path, its road markings
They could at least paint the block yellow-stripe yellow to make it very visible.
that car lane looks huge, how wide is it anyway?
