The Tour de France organisers have in the past year requested spectators at the race to behave and not run alongside riders. However, it seems that their calls are being ignored by some. Chris Froome showed today the frustration that riders can feel from these spectators and lashed out at one on the Col de Peyresourde.

Froome (Team Sky) took the victory on today’s eighth stage of the Tour de France and in addition also moved into the yellow jersey. He attacked at the top of the final climb – the Col de Peyresoude, and stayed clear to win alone in Bagnères-de-Luchon.

On the climb of the Peyresourde though, Froome could be seen throwing a punch at a man who appeared to be carrying a Colombian flag.

  1. I understand his frustration but you can’t just assault people, if it was a spectator hitting a rider they’d probably be arrested, without spectators the race would be a pretty drab affair. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

  2. Well done Chris! I think you will get praise from sportsmen and women across the globe! not only do idiots like ruin cycle sports like the Tour de France by running onto the stage they affect other sports too, just watch a stage of the World Rally Championship in Europe and also see what the drivers have to put up with! Spectators should be respectful at all sporting events, these sporting hero’s train hard and focus on their sport, one stupid move could potentially end in disaster or even end their careers. Authorities should do a better job of somehow controlling spectators at these events.
