The 71 year old Senator has come under fire this week on Twitter after posting several tweets giving out about cyclist and spending on cycling infrastructure.
In the most recent tweet she said “Bicycles are a luxury, most of us use public transportation or walk. Never seen a bike rider obey traffic laws. They are special.”
Eaton was appointed to the Canadian Senate in December 2008, a position which only expires once you reach the age of 75.
This is not the first time the Senator has caused controversy. In 2011 Eaton called Canada’s national symbol, the beaver, a “dentally defective rat”, and suggested that the polar bear should replace it in Canadian iconography.
In 2012 she lead the Conservative government’s charge in the Senate against environmental charities, making unsubstantiated accusations that the charities are involved in “influence peddling” and “political manipulation”.
It appears the catalist for the month long campaign against cycling started after plans were announced for dedicated bike lanes to Bloor Street in downtown Toronto.
Bicycles are a luxury, most of us use public transportation or walk. Never seen a bike rider obey traffic laws. They are special.

Bloor St, what a disaster. Can you imagine closing two lanes of Fifth Avenue to accommodate a few bicycle riders. Are city planners riders.
— Senator Eaton (@SenEaton) August 26, 2016
Keep forgetting cyclists pay lots of road taxes, so why worry about cars and pedestrians.

Why is TO such a mess?instead of bicycle lanes what about park maintenance, road paving and sidewalk fixing instead of patching up

@SenEaton 1. Luxury? Senator, take a deep breath, and research before you continue. As a government representative you have an obligation

.@SenEaton You are so out of touch. Perplexing that you hold the position you do. When did you last ride the TTC? pic.twitter.com/yH1eVyDEvw

@SenEaton oh really? YOU use public transportation? You're irrelevant.

A moron in Politics? Well there’s a surprise..
Have you seen the price of public transport?? Thats a luxury ffs
Yep especially in qld Australia, $25 to go 90 km, 45mile it’s cheaper to drive
Do they have cars in Canada yet ? Seems like she’s overlooked most people’s preferred mode of transport. ……..
Bless her heart….
Let’s fire her
Poor deluded woman.
Saying all cyclist’s are bad is like saying all politicians are honest
Donald could shag her and breed a new race of wankers
Chris, maybe they say “automobile”…?
Just another wart on the arse of society trying to deflect attention away from her inability to do her job.
My bike maybe costs 2 quid per week to run and maintain. The bus to work for a week is 15-25 quid. Luxury yeah.
Yay! I’m special!!!
İs it true ?
I dont believe !!!!
71 Eh,it’s hit her early.
She just wishes she had a nice toned body.
