TAC Victoria have produced a video with Tour de France winner, Cadel Evans, who talks about car dooring and road safety.

Various reports produced in the past number of years have highlighted the dangers associated with car dooring. In New York City, 3% of bicyclist fatalities in the ten-year period between 1996 and 2005 were from striking an open door or swerving to avoid one.

In London, three people were killed in car door opening incidents between 2010 and 2012. In the Australian state of Victoria between 2006 and 2010, car door openings caused eight percent of serious injuries to cyclists.

Car doors are one of the greatest threats to cyclists on our roads, but you can help to change that. Rider Reminder is a sticker which is placed on the inside of your car door handle.

Designed to feel like your old bike handle, it’s a reminder to think of bike riders and open with care. Road Safety is everyone’s responsibility and if we all come together we can achieve our goal of zero deaths and serious injuries on our roads.
