In an interview with the German newspaper, Donaukurier, the German rider Tony Martin has spoken of his disappointment with the news that Astana will receive a World Tour licence.

In the interview to be published today, the Etixx – Quick-Step rider has said that “As a team where the suspicion of doping is so strong, being given a license is a slap in our face.”

The triple time-trial World Champion continued saying that “we can only guess the reasons for granting the licence.” Martin feels that there will be a question mark behind each victory of the Kazakh team, and hopes that there needs to be a lot of scrutiny of the performances of the team.

The German has been one of the few riders to speak out about last week’s decision to grant Astana a licence, despite their numerous positives tests this year and links with the Padova case.
