Some cyclists have races named after them, others have monuments built on mountains. The 2014 Giro d’Italia winner, Nairo Quintana, has been honoured in a somewhat different way.

A beetle discovered in Colombia has been given a scientific name which honours Quintana reported the National University.

The beetle, called “Oxyelitrum nairoi” caught the attention of researchers from the Institute of Natural Sciences (ICN), National University because their characteristics are different to those of other individuals of the same species. The insect was found in the municipality of Restrepo in the department of Meta, as stated by the director of ICN, Germán Amat.

We’re not sure of the Colombian’s reaction to the news.
