The organisers of the Vuelta a España confirmed today its selection of four wild card teams that will participate at the race alongside the eighteen eligible WorldTour teams.

The four spaces were given to French team Cofidis and the three Spanish ProContinental teams, Burgos-BH, Caja Rural and Euskadi Basque Country. These four teams had been expected to be given the wild cards with Cofidis having sponsored the race for a number of years.

Amongst the teams missing out are Aqua Blue Sport. The team made their debut at last year’s edition. They impressed during the race with their Austrian rider Stefan Denifl winning the mountainous seventeenth stage from Villadiego to Alto de Los Machucos.

The Vuelta takes place between 25 August and 16 September. It starts in Malaga with an 8-kilometre time-trial
