Below are highlights of Stage 3 of the Critérium du Dauphiné, which was a 24.5km team time-trial from Roanne to Montagny.

Team time trial world champions BMC Racing Team won the TTT that hadn’t been part of the history of the Dauphiné for 35 years. This put Australia’s Rohan Dennis into the overall lead exactly two years after he had worn the yellow-blue jersey in the race following an individual time trial.

Along with his team-mate Tejay van Garderen, Dennis is now four seconds ahead of Tour de France champion Vincenzo Nibali whose Astana team finished 4″ down, narrowly beating Movistar by 1″.

Orica Green Edge and Team Sky lost more time than might have been expected. Orica finished 28″ behind BMC, while Sky lost 35 seconds as well as Peter Kennaugh’s yellow-blue leader’s jersey.

The race continues today with a flattish stage 228 kilometre stage from Anneyron Porte de DromArdeche to Sisteron.
