This video from Transport for London (TFL) shows the dangers that cyclists face by undertaking lorries at junctions and just how potentially big a blind spot can be for drivers.
The video shows the view that the driver has from his cab with no cyclists visible in his wing mirrors. However, as the driver leaves the cab and moves around the outside of the vehicle, it can then be seen that there was in fact a large group of cyclists on the inside.
Last year, there were eight cyclists killed in London, and seven of these were killed by left-turning trucks according to an article on fastcoexist.com.
That’s all very well, but what about lorry drivers who come alongside and then treat you as if you’ve disappeared?
