Following on from the Women’s U23 Cyclocross World Championships today, the UCI have issued a statement confirming that a bike has been detained for further investigation in relation to technological fraud after a check following the race.
The UCI also confirmed that the case did not involve any of the riders placed in the top three. According to Sporza and other media sources, the Belgian Cycling Federation has confirmed that it is the bike of Femke Van den Driessche which is being scrutinised.
The race was won by Evie Richards of Great Britain with the Czech Republic’s Nikola Noskova taking second place with Maud Kaptheijns of the Netherlands in third.
The statement from the UCI is as follows:
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) confirms that pursuant to the UCI’s Regulations on technological fraud a bike has been detained for further investigation following checks at the Women’s Under 23 race of the 2016 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships. This does not concern any of the riders on the podium. Further details will be shared in due course.
The awkward moment when your bike has an electric motor and you still don’t place on the podium!
Wasn’t worth while if they didn’t win then, was it?
Black and Decker, Bosch and De’walt are in a spin and could be charged over any involvement…
Shocking. Why can’t people just rely on their own ability to perform, without drugs, and aided additions playing a part.
Everyone wants to be something special, unfortunately it’s not done by natural ability in some cases.
Maybe it’s just 35mm tyres…
Elite Class?? I thought you said E-bike!
