The Italian rider, Mauro Santambrogio, has tested positive for testosterone and now faces the possibility of being banned from competing for life.

The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announced that it had notified Santambrogio of an Adverse Analytical Finding of Testosterone in a sample collected in the scope of an out-of-competition control on 22 October 2014.

The Italian has since claimed that he had been prescribed Andriol by his doctor as his testosterone levels were low and he had erection and fertility problems.

Santambrogio has tested positive previously in addition to being linked to doping investigations. In 2010, he was mentioned in the Mantova doping investigation, and was sidelined for a few days by BMC, his team at the time; he was again sidelined in 2011 when new evidence showed up. He left BMC for Vini Fantini, and in 2013, it was announced that Santambrogio had tested positive for EPO after the first stage of the 2013 Giro d’Italia.
