German band Kraftwerk are set to play in Utrecht as part of the Grand Départ of this year’s Tour de France. Band members Ralf Hütter and Fritz Hilpert are big fans of cycling, and one of their best known songs is ‘Tour de France’ which featured on their 1983 album ‘Tour de France Soundtracks’.
The song was released in June 1983, and peaked at number 22 in the UK singles chart. The music has often featured in TV coverage of the race
Kraftwerk will play on the 3rd of July in the Tivoli Vredenburg in Utrecht. We’re just wondering why nobody has thought of this gig before part of the Grand Départ.
