The 138-km race was the first round of the 2015 UCI Women Road World Cup starting and finishing in Hoogeveen. Some 120 riders took to the start of the 2015 edition of the race, in dry but cold and foggy conditions.

It was the 9th edition of the race, and the riders would have to cover a number of cobbled sections. However, it was the man-made 380m long VAMberg hill that is usually the most decisive terrain of the race. In previous editions, the winning move is typically made on the final climb of the VAMberg.

The next round of the 10-round World Cup is the Trofeo Alfredo Binda-Comune di Cittiglio.
