Giro points champion Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek – Segafredo) was first across the line on today’s final stage of the Giro d’Italia but afterwards was relegated for an irregular sprint.
The 27 year-old Italian swerved towards Sacha Modolo (Lampre – Merida) in the closing metres and victory instead was awarded to Nikias Arndt (Giant – Alpecin).
Despite numerous top 10 finishes on Grand Tour stages, Nizzolo has yet to take a stage win and his wait will have to continue.
