French rider Alexandre Geniez of the FDJ team nearly came down numerous times on the descent from Crosara on yesterday’s stage of the Giro d’Italia.

The riders had to contend with a particularly steep descent in the wet, and it was always going to be nerve-wracking. Geniez was leading the race at the time, so the cameras were there to catch his near misses.

He nearly went off the road on a number of bends and had to unclip to try to keep his balance. It seemed that it would be just a matter of time before he went sliding off the road, but he somehow managed to stay upright.

At one stage, Geniez came close to careering into a group of spectators, with one little girl seemingly dropping the food she was eating.

Others weren’t as lucky as the Frenchman though, as Simon Gerrans and Stef Clement were amongst those who crashed.
