In Portland, Oregon in the United States last night, a bike ride was organised to remember David Bowie whose sad passing was announced yesterday.

The David Bowie vs. Mortality Vigil Ride was organised by The Community Cycling Center’s Lillian Karabaic who also organises the Bowie vs. Prince bike ride.

“Bowie vs. Prince is a huge community of hundreds that usually only meets up once a year, every year since 2008,” Karabaic told Oregonlive.com, “but today seemed like a day worth getting everyone together and just reminding ourselves that David Bowie is immortal in our lives through his art and spirit.”

The Bowie vs. Prince bike ride takes place every summer whereby fans of the two performers meet in two different Portland locations in costumes and then join up for a big rolling mass of music fans with thumping music.

Here’s a short clip of a previous ride:

Here’s the description of last night’s ride on Facebook:

In memory of the man who sold the world, our Major Tom, our Ziggy Stardust, our Goblin King … we ride.

Put on your glitter and dust off your best rain gear for a short ride in memory of the Legendary David Bowie. You might be #teamprince every other day of the year, but today we’re all #teambowie. We’ll meet at 5PM at Waterfront Park (at SW Pine) and ride at 5:30. A short ride to Clinton & 34th where there is new bike boulevard diverter for a dance party.
