Italian bike manufacturer Colnago have come in for a considerable amount of criticism for a post which they made on both Twitter and Facebook over the weekend.
The post asked the question “Do you thought about where to ride this weekend? Or take the bike and go. Let us know your route, share your comments below” and featured a lycra-clad woman leaning over a bike.
The marketing fail has prompted hundreds of followers to respond to the post (shown below), criticising the company for the advertisement.
Also, it seems that Colnago have decided to block users on Facebook who have commented on the post being sexist rather than respond.
Amongst the comments posted in response to Colnago’s post were the following:
Meredith Rambow “Colnago, you just made my list of bikes-not-to-buy. Please join the 21st century.”
Sabrina Forbes “As a woman cyclists and a former elite racer I will never buy one of your bikes ! This is NOT the way to advertise your bikes or help promote women’s cycling!”
Renée Christine “If your engineers spend as much time thinking about their work as your marketing team, I sincerely worry about the structural integrity of your bikes.”
Rachel Hiltsley “I can not understand why companies continue to choose to alienate women by using them as sex symbols and then act like we’re crazy for not being down. Seriously dudes. This isn’t 1950. Get it together.”
Utter rubbish!
best not follow @SelfieOnBike then…
And if that had been man’s butt, would it then be acceptable? Just what is being objected to?
Where can I buy a poster of this wonderful photograph.
this is an amazing bike, thanks for sharing this. I am really thankful to you.
