Chris Froome has escaped serious injury after being hit by a motorist in an incident earlier today which appears to have been a deliberate act. Froome said that he had been “rammed on purpose” by the driver who followed him onto the pavement.

The incident took place while the Team Sky was training in Beausoleil in the south of France, close to his home in Monaco.

The three-time Tour de France winner posted a photo of his badly damaged bike on Twitter with the message: “Just got rammed on purpose by an impatient driver who followed me onto the pavement! Thankfully I’m okay. Bike totaled. Driver kept going!”

The damage to the bike, whereby both wheels and the frame are smashed, shows how fortunate Froome was to avoid serious injury. This latest incident, which took place just over two weeks after the death of Michele Scarponi, once again shows the vulnerability of cyclists.

  1. Well it looks like the rich and famous also deal with what the common cyclist has to go through .. lucky for them they have a fleet of bikes and doctors, the rest of us? Not so much; this incident changes nothing and he gets no acknowledgement of solidarity from me

  2. This would be a great time for the police to use it as an educational tool. Froome on TV with police explaining that cyclist are allowed to use the whole lane and road rage is against them isn’t acceptable…..
    Probably though…..
