Astana Proteam have announced that they will distribute a specially-designed bidon tomorrow in memory of Michele Scarponi who died a month ago.

The bidon has a painting of Frankie, the parrot who used to accompany Michele on training rides, and also featured in a number of videos posted by the Italian cyclist.

The 2011 Giro d’Italia winner died on 22 April, after being hit by a van, while riding his bike, close to his home in Filottrano.

During tomorrow’s sixteenth stage between Rovetta and Bormio which includes the famous climb of the Passo del Mortirolo, named as “Cima Scarponi”, Astana Proteam riders will use these bottles, while the staff of the team will also distribute it to fans on the roadside and near the team bus.

According to the statement from the team, the gesture “is just a small thing, but we believe, it will help everyone to remember the great champion Michele Scarponi.”
