Footage has emerged of a woman being hit by a discarded bidon at the Tour de Suisse. The incident happened in Baar during the second stage on Sunday.
It’s unclear as to whether the woman was seriously hurt after the bidon was thrown over the barriers, but a man is seen attending to her.
“Cyclists can drink up to five litres of water during a stage,” Jolanda de Graaf, spokesman for the Tour de Suisse told 20 Minuten. “But there are clear rules about where and how to throw the bottles.”
“They need to be launched to the ground and in the authorised areas. We would like to apologise and send flowers to the person concerned, but we do not know the identity of the victim.”
Sports Director for the Tour de Suisse David Loosli and the UCI will decide if sanctions will be required for the rider involved and his team.
A video of the incident can be seen here.
So we don’t even know who this person was? What’s the point even talking about it?
Probably because..”there are clear rules about where and how to throw the bottles.”
“They need to be launched to the ground and in the authorised areas”.
Learn to catch.
I would say it was a good shot, you try pin pointing a target speeding along with the peleton and scoring a direct hit. 10/10
How often do you see the headline, “Fan Beaned By Foul Ball, Plans Federal Lawsuit”?
Obviously unintentional but a poor call by the cyclist imo, hope the lady is OK.
