A man on horseback apprehended a suspected bike thief in a Walmart car park in Oregon yesterday by lassoing the man and holding him until police arrived.

Robert Borba works as a rancher and was loading his purchases into his truck when he heard a woman shouting that her bike had been stolen.

Borba admitted that he wouldn’t have been able to catch the man if he had chased after him on foot. Instead, he went after him on Long John, his horse which happened to be in his trailer.

The suspect abandoned the bike when he saw he was being chased by a horse and tried to flee on foot. When Borba was close enough, he threw his rope, lassoing the man around his legs and causing him to fall.

He then called 911 and waited for the police to arrive. The suspect, Victorino Arellano-Sanchez, was then charged with theft and taken to Jackson County Jail.
