Gianni Moscon was today disqualified from the Elite Men’s Road Race at the UCI Road World Championships in Bergen.
The Italian was caught up behind a crash on the penultimate lap but quickly made it back to the front group.
However, a video was later posted on Twitter which showed Moscon receiving a tow from a team car. He had originally finished in 29th position, just a few seconds behind race winner Peter Sagan.
In the video, Moscon can be seen reaching out to the team car and pulling clear of a Colombian rider who had also been caught out behind.
Moscon had been part of a dangerous move with Julian Alaphilippe which went clear on the final ascent of Salmon Hill. The duo stayed clear for a time before being reeled in by the peloton.
In 2015, Vincenzo Nibali was disqualified from the Vuelta a Espana for also receiving a tow from a team car.
