Xeno Young has picked up the Young Player of the Year award at the Belfast Telegraph Sports Awards. The award is recognition for his stellar 2017 season.

In July, he won a silver medal at the UEC Junior and U23 Track European Championships in Portugal. Young finished behind Ivan Smirnov (Russia) in the gold medal final of the Men’s Junior Individual Pursuit.

The following month, the Hillsborough teenager won silver in the Individual Pursuit at the Junior Track Cycling World Championships in Montichiari, Italy. He finished 2017 ranked as No. 1 Junior Pursuiter in the UCI rankings.

Earlier this month, Young was named on the Northern Irish team for the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane which takes place from the 4th – 15th April 2018. He is expected to compete in the Pursuit, Time trial and Road Race events at the Games, which will prove to be an excellent learning experience for the eighteen-year-old in his first year competing in the senior ranks.
