Wonderful Losers: A Different World is a new documentary by Arūnas Matelis about the world of pro cycling, and in particular, the work of the domestiques.

According to the producers of the film, it covers “the relationship between those who lead, and those who are ready to sacrifice themselves to help their teammates achieve the victory.

“For most of us, those cyclists running at the back of the race are simply the losers. They are called water carriers, domestics, gregarious, who sacrifice their careers and personal victories, so their team leaders can win the race.”

Arunas Matelis followed these domestiques over seven years of the Giro d’Italia and reveals the unseen world of these wonderful losers of professional cycling from the point of view of the doctors’ team.

The film has been included in various film festivals at Zagreb, Dublin, Minsk, Tallinn and Trieste but there is no information available on the film’s website about a general release.

Amongst the comments about the film are the following:

“A film that immerses you into its world from the very first seconds.” – Stefan Laudyn, Warsaw Film Festival Director.

“A sincere film, a gift to anybody who makes sacrifices for others – in sport or in life.”
– World Champion Edita Pučinskaitė.

“A film that honours fatigue, strategies, rage and delusions of the ignored soldiers in every team.” – Corriere Della Serra.
