Irish rider Sam Bennett took victory earlier this week in the second and final stage of the Giro della Toscana when he outsprinted Mark Cavendish and Daniele Bennati in Pontedera.
The “Lanterne Rouge” of the Tour de France proved fastest at the end of the hilly stage and below are highlights from the race.
As can be seen in the footage, numerous riders were dropped on the hilly parcours. Bennett’s Bora-Argon 18 team worked well to help reel in a 7-man break and help keep their sprinter in contention.
Bennett paid off for the work put in by his team-mates and his win showed that he’s back to his best after a difficult few months.
The Irish rider crashed heavily in the Tour de France and despite his injuries, he managed to finish the race. His recent form has shown that he has been getting closer to a win, and his victory will give him great confidence in advance of next month’s World Championships.
