Wout Poels (Team Sky) yesterday became the first Dutch rider since Adri van der Poel in 1988 and just the fifth Dutch rider ever to win Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

Poels had gotten away from the lead group on the penultimate climb of the Côte de la Rue Naniot, and managed to outsprint Michael Albasini (Orica-GreenEdge) and Rui Costa (Lampre) to take the win.

It was a memorable edition of the race as it was run off in terrible conditions. The temperature was just 1°C as the riders set off from Liège, and they faced sleet and snow showers throughout the day.
