Bono is offering a chance to join him for a bike ride through New York’s Central Park to support (RED)’s fight for an AIDS free generation. Entries cost from $10 and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will match the money raised to $20 Million.

One of his previous cycles through the park didn’t end too well for U2’s singer when he crashed heavily and sustained a facial fracture on his eye socket as well as multiple fractures on his left shoulder blade, left arm and left hand.

He said recently on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show: “I got myself banged up pretty good, but I’m back. I’ve been rebuilt, and I’m ready to share a ride in Central Park and talk about anything people want to talk about. It will be my great pleasure to do that.”

(RED)was founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver in 2006 with a mission to make it easy for people and businesses to join the fight against the deadly virus.

The facts: AIDS has killed more than 34 million people since its discovery in 1983. More than 37 million people are living with HIV, and mothers continue to pass the virus in startling numbers to their children.

Life-saving anti-retroviral treatments cost less than 40 cents a day, yet most AIDS victims won’t see medicine in their lifetime. We’re determined to change that.

Throughout the past decade, (RED) has raised more than $320 million with the help of companies like Apple and Coca Cola. 100% of the money from our products and events goes directly to work on the ground—but we still have work to do.

  1. I don’t know why but I always read this news story as Bono fell off his bike and suffered a nasty faecal injury. It just seems to make more sense! Good on him for doing the charity work though, maybe he could get those companies to pay a bit of tax as well.
