The jury of the Vuelta are set to review television footage this morning from yesterday’s stage to determine if second-placed rider Fabio Aru (Astana) received an unfair helping hand from his team mate Luis León Sánchez.

Aru was struggling to keep up with race leader Tom Dumoulin (Giant-Alpecin) on the cobbled climb to the finish in Avila, and Dumoulin’s team lodged a complaint afterwards claiming that Sánchez had given Aru a push.

It’s unclear if the jury have new footage to review or if it’s the images that TV viewers saw that they will be examining.

Prior to the stage, Aru was six seconds behind the red jersey, but Dumoulin gained another three seconds over his rival to extend his lead to six seconds. Depending on the decision of the jury, Aru may received a time penalty, extending Dumoulin’s lead.
