For anybody who missed out on Vincenzo Nibali’s descent from the Civiglio climb in the Tour of Lombardy today, this is well worth a watch.

The Italian threw caution to the wind as he gapped the others in the lead group to go on to win the race. He really pushed himself to the limit on each hairpin, and looked like he might hit some of the crash barriers on the way down. At one stage, he gestures at a motorcyclist after having to squeeze past him on the descent.

By the bottom of the Civiglio, Nibali had built up a lead of 25″ over the chasing group which contained the likes of Thibaut Pinot (FDJ), Dani Moreno (Katusha) and Alejandro Valverde (Movistar), and he would hold on to win his first monument.

Nibali has built up a reputation over the years as an excellent descender and this shows why the reputation is deserved.

  1. Nibali nearly pushed off by a motorbike @4:24. Riders should be given the space to race safely at all times! There has been too many incidents involving moto’s and riders.
